Haven't been to Blimpy since the 80s. Probably because I wanted to keep my cholesterol levels down. The new location, next to the Fleetwood, is a nice addition to what I now affectionately coin "the cardiac corner". You can get yourself a burger and fried veggies, and they are delicious. I actually like the new location, it's full of light and you can watch the passersby, healthy runner types that don't belong in Blimpy anyway. One cold wintery day, I was downtown running errands and mentioned to my colleague that I needed some grease. And Blimpy appeared on the next block as if in a dream. The double swiss I had was good and greasy. It lacked in flavor (I thought the mushrooms would help) but made up for itself in heartburn. I know the meat is freshly ground but I'd forego the thin, multiple patties for a big juicy medium rare. Just my peference. My fries were fat and crispy and perfectly cooked. The service was friendly and not soup nazi-esque as mentioned in previous reviews. You need to study the menu and know what you want when you get up there. If you want grease to coat your stomach, head here. And if you are really feeling hungry or are very very drunk, head over to the Fleetwood for some Hippie Hash to top it off. You'll be an Ann Arbor Glutton Hero.

Great food, pretty good service. Sometimes customers don't know the order in which they're supposed to order their food and it visibly frustrates the cooks a bit. Aside from that this place is great, and even after moving to a new location the magic is still there. If you like a flavorful greasy burger with all the fixings, this place is for you, and even if you don't I would still take a look.

I finally tried Blimpie today only because I passed by at about 4:50pm and there was no one in line. The burger is mediocre and NOT, as they claim, "cheaper than food". With a fried egg, grilled mushrooms, and a few toppings (lettuce, onions, tomatoes, pepper) I thought were free, the $2.99 double burger came to $5.29 after tax. That is precisely the same after-tax price as a single patty burger at Great Plains, where many toppings are free, and, if one includes the toppings, is far more substantial than the greasy double burger I had. Great Plains is also much tastier (and probably healthier too, not that anyone visiting Blimpie would be concerned about health issues). Service is AWFUL. Perhaps to old-timers and townies this passes for 'charm', but to me everyone was just simply rude, especially the old black woman doing the grilling. After I ordered, I went off to wash my hands and when I returned she scolded me for walking off, demanded that I "stay right there", "or else the next person in line would take my burger." The system they have where everyone has to stand in line is retarded. They could easily switch to a different and more efficient system, making for a much more pleasant experience for diners. But I suspect they like maintaining the perpetually long queues, so that suckers like myself who pass by simply assume it is good. I can only imagine how incredibly disappointed I would've been, had I queued up for half an hour like most people here usually do during peak hours, only to get a not-so-cheap burger that was utterly mediocre. Maybe 40 years ago this was the best cheap burger around, but that is certainly no longer true. There are better and cheaper options. But they'll probably thrive so long as the townies and old-timers continue to find it worthwhile upholding this Ann Arbor tradition. Kinda like Michigan football I guess.

Literally the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. The cook was so verbally abusive that I ended up cancelling my order before receiving it and just left. It was my first time there and he literally refused to add anything to my burger because I hesitated and looked at the menu again. Absolutely vile; I would never talk to a human being the way I was talked to.

Not sure why all the hype unless you like alot of bun. Burger was what i expected, good tasting little patties but not matter what bun you get and no matter even if you order the quint it's still way to much bun. Onion rings and fried veggies were tasty and everything is very cheap, price wise.

Took my son and his girlfriend for his birthday meal. First time at the new location and for those tired of getting yelled at I got a suggestion for you.... Order your meal right idiots you don't need a degree pay attention! I don't agree with one reviewer I felt the onion rings were the best i ever had. I even found a copy cat recipe that I use at home for the onion rings. Now the hamburgers are just simply very very good sliders meat is never frozen that is the key I think. Enjoyed this new place over the old and will be coming back after we sneak away from the kids

Too much hype for a decent burger. We went pretty early, around 11:15, and were pleased to see that there was almost no line. After waiting a few minutes, the girl behind the counter took our orders and started preparing the food. Having freshly prepared burgers is definitely a plus, but frankly one should expect this from a non fast food joint. In about 15 minutes total we received our food. A triple, fried vegetable, and drink is actually pretty expensive ($12) compared to almost any other lunch option; so the claim that it's "cheaper than food" doesn't quite make sense. The fried broccoli was good, the burger was ok. Anywhere else, people would likely complain about how sloppily they choose to assemble a burger. All in all, it was decent food at a bit too high of a price for the quality. Also, I can't help but wonder if they could serve more than 6 customers in the 15 minute span we waited. After experiencing this AA staple firsthand, I can only conclude that the numerous rave reviews of Blimpy Burger are from people who cannot accept that they wasted 2 hours waiting in a line going past the door to get mediocre food. Seriously, guys, you can put more than 5 patties on a giant grill at the same time.

Wait was okay, and the staff were somewhat pleasant to me (I'm told that this is FAR from the norm), but the food was WAY overpriced. $25 for two burgers, two drinks, and a small side of onion rings? What a joke... also considering that you are given a beige cafeteria tray and expected to bus yourself (no service). Burgers were sloppy and tasted... well, like any other basic burger (the onion rings were pretty alright though). I was disappointed that a quad amounted to what I'd consider a regular-sized patty on the grill. I thought that the eating experience resembled eating at a trough (I noticed food on the floor here and there), though this might be a bit harsh (and it *is* a fast burger joint, after all). I also did hear cooks yelling at people to "not leave [the line]" and "don't walk away yet!" I found that to be pretty rude, especially when they messed up several orders ahead of me (including mine), and then the cooks briefly argued with each other. Wth. This place makes Ann Arbor, and the University of Michigan look bad. (There is also no Pepsi)

I haven't eaten here since the move. Mom and I were excited to give the new place a go. It was empty when we arrived and we went right up to the counter. The cook was cool, I noticed he was a little impatient with me because I didn't order the way they wanted me to. The cashier, a nut bag of course. Really short with me. I wasn't sure if it was sarcasm or just plain rude. When I sat down to eat I noticed the signs that tell you how to order. Full of exclamation marks and sarcastic tone. Turned. Me. Off. No thanks, Blimpie. Burger wasn't worth it. Best part of my visit was the glass bottled Pepsi. Go figure.

Burgers and fries taste excellent, but it isn't a place you should frequent as its probably not healthy for you.

Went for lunch on a weekday. First time since they opened in the new location. The guy behind me in line was talking about why they had to move and mistakenly referenced the UM parking lot (it's actually a dorm) now at the old location. The Blimpy employee working the cheese slicer, in a red knit cap responds in the most insulting way possible, "Can't you tell the difference between a dorm and a parking lot?" Then the guy in line says "Having a bad day?" The banter about the bad day escalates, then the Blimpy guy in the red hat says "If I were cooking, I'd throw your burger on the floor!" Full disclosure, I worked for Jim at the old location and knew him well. He would have fired the red hat dude on the spot. No excuse for treating a customer this way, especially when it was totally undeserved. To Rich (the owner): even if the red hat guy is your relative (seems likely, as no businessman would hire an employee with this kind of attitude), you should get rid of him. He's damaging your business. As far as the food goes, they no longer melt the cheese on the burgers, a serious drawback. A good burger otherwise. The food deserves three stars and the other employees were professional, but I'm giving them only one star because the service was so outrageously unprofessional.

It's back and still fantastic. If you haven't been here before, review the ordering procedure. They will hassle you if you haven't figured it out by the time you work your way up to order. The good news is you'll have ample time in line to use the posters on the walls to study up. It's all part of the full Blimpy's experience, which thankfully will be around for a long time to come.

Sorry Ann Arbor (and Blimpy Burger). I'm not buying the hype. First - I'm not sure they even season the meat. A little salt and spice would go a long way. Second - While the flat top grill they use is covered in grease, the patties are bone dry and flavorless. Burgers need at least a little bit of juice. Third - The bun - Onion buns are a great idea, but this bun wasn't very fresh. The only bright spot was the mix vegetable fries, which were crispy and flavorful. I'd rank BurgerFi, QuickyBurger, and Hunter House and way at the bottom somewhere, Blimpie Burger. Finally - gimmicky ordering is only charming when the food is good. Sorry dudes.

The food was alright. As I was walking in, there was barely a wait, but service was such a bitch. The grill cook was such an asshole to me and my family and it was incredibly awful that he should be so disdainful. To say that employee was nice would be an overstatement. I asked for a quadruple patty burger, but he refused and only gave me a triple. The fried broccoli and onion rings that I ordered were lukewarm, which is a problem because I usually love Blimpy's fried vegetables hot. Near the end, there was a malfunction with the cash register in which it took a long time to print the receipt. It was a problem too. The burgers were good, but I wish service didn't have such an attitude problem. The grill cook was a fuckboi. Probably never coming back.

I'm guessing the reviewers who said this place is worth the wait did not have to wait 2 hours like I did. (Not exaggerating.) I came here with my young kids and would not have stayed if I had realized initially that the wait would be that long. After an hour and a half of waiting outside, we got in the door and I let my kids sit down. By this time, they had already walked a mile from our house to Blimpy Burger and stood on the sidewalk for 90 minutes. There were MANY empty tables, which we were surprised to see, until we realized that the hold-up was not lack of seating but the line moving slowly at the grill. After my kids had been sitting for a few minutes, a woman came out of the kitchen (or from the grill area? I'm not sure) and started yelling at my kids. I mean SCREAMING: "Where are your parents?! You get up and wait in line with everyone else! If you're gonna eat, you're gonna be in line!" With all of the yelling, everyone was looking at my kids (to their horror), and they got up right away to rejoin me in the line. You would think that with so many rules posted around the place, they would post something like "Children may not sit down at empty tables even if no one is waiting for a table" to avoid humiliating tired and hungry kids. The burgers were not bad, but not great. They earned the star for their onion rings, which were very good. My family will not be coming back to Blimpy Burger.

My partner, roommate and I were thrilled to finally get the chance to stop into the new joint... Our experience was less then desirable. First impression was the facility was clean and up to date... Upon ordering the employees were too concerned about being rude and/or harassing the customers then what they actually wanted. I get the concept of the restaurant no cell phones ect, but two of the three burgers were incorrect... I don't know where grilled onions comes in place of grilled egg... Or possibly the fact that it was putting the employee out by asking for extra cheese... Isn't that an add on... Helps drives sales? Something? Very unmotivated employees, Friday night 6pm nearly 20 people in line and there was no sense of urgency... We waited almost 40 minutes to place an order! Fries were done almost 10 minutes before the burgers... By time we got to the table they were cold... Not kid friendly at all! Very disappointed, in the customer service aspect... Aside from that the mediocre burgers with incorrect toppings and deep fried items were... okay. Mostly likely our last visit, it's a shame such an awesome place went down the drain!

Great experience. Got a double but should have gone triple. Excellent pickles on the burger. Fries were cooked well. Staff was friendly. Guy behind us was a bit flummoxed and asked about cheese before they were ready. He received a mild dig in response. Would probably have been considered rude if your skin was as thin as tissue. If you are sensitive, just be prepared as we were for our first visit. Oversell 8/10; would go back.

Burgers are great, fried veggies are amazing. Like the new expanded space. A bit pricey but well worth the taste and wait.

  • Brian M.

The food is tasty and the staff is great. If you have any doubt just check out the hour long lines on weekdays between meal times. This wait is why I cannot give it more than three stars. I'm glad the restaurant is popular and was able to come back after losing their first location. I'm puzzled as to why that obvious popularity hasn't resulted in the purchase of a bigger grill and the addition of a cook or two. Good food, bad business.

My favorite burger! We can never decide what to get from the fryer, it's all so good, so we usually get it all, fries, onion rings and mixed veggies. My husband says he would like it as his "last meal"!

    (5)
  • Bill R.

The wait doesn't justify the end product. That is what I kept telling myself while eating my Triple w/ cheese and fries. I waited in line for a good 25 minutes and when I got in line it was right at the beginning of the ramp up. So if you are at the door I am gonna assume you are in for a 45 minute wait. I do like the ordering system and how you can see everything being made right in front of you but it seems really inefficient. On to the food. The burger was good but I wouldn't put it into even my top 10, which is what I expected with all the hype. I found the burger patties a bit dry and under seasoned. The fries were really good and the other items coming out of the fryer looked awesome. Honestly I would think about skipping the line and going to the "fine dining" establishment next door which is roughly the same price and a fraction of the time. I do look forward to coming back and trying Blimpie agin. I am sure they are just getting used to the new setup and working out the kinks.

Tastes pretty good, but way too expensive. Skip the fries, they are poorly fried.

Not much has changed here except the location. The burgers are still good and the fried veggies better. The service is still without a smile and SOOO slow. There were only 5 people in front of me at 11:30, on a Monday, and it still took 40 minutes in line to get my burger to-go. It's definitely a tasty burger, but I would really have to be in the mood for it to wait in that line again.

Time to try the new location!.It's cleaner and a little more "sterile". Same atmosphere as the original location(respond when addressed). Some of the same employees. The only problem is that this restaurant does not have my "smell" approval, yet. They have what looks like the original grill (just cleaner) that gives these burgers the same great teaste. ala...http://www.yelp.com/biz/greenes-hamburgers-farmington#hrid:xjHc9sQ_HcObZefLYCsTRw/src:self Same great burger!!!!

I don't know why there are so many 2 star reviews for this place. It is my favorite burger place in Ann Arbor for sure! I like that the patties are small. Who really needs that much patty? Thank you for not forcing me to consume giant bites of meat. I do not like the meat to detract from the toppings. The meat is flavorful and juicy, and for me, two patties is perfect for allowing the other flavors to stand out as well. I love the options. Bun options, eggs and bacon, veggie options, cheese options, yes yes yes. grilled mushroom and swiss? Bacon and cheddar? EGG? So much delicious fun to be had. I love that there are options in addition to burgers. I haven't tried any of them but my non-beef eating mom loved the chicken sandwich when she came to visit. I've never had unfriendly service or waited longer than 10 minutes in line. Even with a line to the door, I got through and to a seat in 10 minutes. The ONLY thing I don't love are the fries. I considered knocking off a star for the fries, but the mixed veggies more than make up for it, so I kept the fifth star for the sake of the veggies. ***I should add a disclaimer that I have only lived in Ann Arbor for a year so I never got to experience the old location. Maybe all the two star reviews are from old patrons who are nostalgic for the former location. I get it, change is hard. That said, my review is based solely off the new location.

After living in Ann Arbor for 15 years, we finally made it out last night to try this local institution. Today we're wondering why it became such an institution. Went for dinner on a Monday night during Christmas break--figured lines wouldn't be too terrible while school wasn't in session, but we were wrong. It stretched to the door, and by the time we left it was hooking around the back of the room. It took over forty minutes to get our food. The burger was OK. Just OK. If it weren't for the wait, I could see going back sometime , but not when there are places around town where you can get a better burger for about the same price without the line. And where, for a few bucks more, you can get a truly excellent burger. The onion rings I had would themselves be a good reason to go back (the breading is more like a dusting, the onions soft but not soggy) , except for a) the line you stand in to order them and b) the 5 minute lag between when they put them on my tray and when we got our burgers. They were lukewarm when we made it to a table, at which point I discovered the my burger was missing the grilled onions I ordered. The staff did take care of that quickly, but all the while my burger and rings were cooling. When I finally tucked in everything was bordering on cold. The pleasant surprise of the evening was the service. After reading about the rigid ordering procedure on b-burger's web site, I was steeling myself for verbal if not physical abuse should I miss a step. Actually, the staff were very laid back and pleasant. Even they didn't follow ordering protocol to the letter. Judging from other reviews, I guess my experience was an exception to the rule. To be sure, Blimpy offers a unique burger experience, at least around these parts, and I think either people really dig that experience and so put up with the waiting involved (and perhaps think the experience enhances the food), or don't and go someplace else. Count us solidly in camp #2.

Yes! Blimpie is back! The menu is the same as the former location, it's just in a different space. The space doesn't quite have the same charm as the old location but we can't quite fault them for that since space was a fabulous house that no longer exists. They've done a great job attempting to recreate what they could though--the seating feels/looks the same, the images/photos on the walls have been moved and rehomed, etc. The layout feels a lot more spacious than the last location which is an improvement. It's the first week since they've relocated and reopened and they have a bit of growing pains to work through. They're not quite as dialed in as they used to be, and the wait is longer (but then again, so are the lines). But when you sink your teeth into that burger it makes the wait 100% worth it. So glad you're back, Blimpie! Can't wait to visit again!

Blimpie is back! I brought my mom to the just-reopened Blimpie to celebrate her birthday. She was thrilled to see the new place, right next door to the Fleetwood Diner. The inside is bigger and seats more people. There is a ramp to get you up to the ordering area. Get a tray if you'll eat in. First they'll ask if you need anything from the fryer: fries, veggies, etc. You can get two, three, four or five patties. They're thin, so a double is about the equivalent of a quarter pound burger. Wait until your burger is cooked before you tell them what kind of cheese you want. They have a certain order for taking in your information, but they're usually pretty forgiving if they know you're a Blimpie neophyte.

I went to Blimpy Burger once when I used to work in Ann Arbor, and absolutely fell in love with this special secret sauce they put on their burgers. It was perfect. So perfect that when I tried to go back awhile later and found out they had closed, I was devastated. That's how good that sauce was. I donated to their GoFundMe to help them raise enough money for a new location, just so I could one day get that sauce again. I waited over a year for them to reopen, and finally made it back out to Ann Arbor a few months later. Guess what. They don't have the sauce anymore.

Rude! So freakin rude! I thought at first it was a joke or I didn't get the memo that the restaurant was one of those that talked and treated it patrons like a piece of crap.. We must have got lucky cause we literally walked right in.. The place was ugly.. No decor.. Just random old pictures.. Could do so much more with the space.. But truthfully how a place is styled is the least of my worries I care about food and service.. Food was mediocre and expensive and the service was possibly the worst I ever had. Except the sweet young girl who rang me out and was condiment corner.. I felt so Incredibly stressed to make sure how I ordered was perfect that it completely ruined my experience and it wasn't just me I felt so uncomfortable just listening how the lady cook belittled everyone in line.. Horrible just horrible! We def won't be back and il be sure to tell everyone about my experience..

Blimpie's hasn't missed a step. Everything still tastes like it did. It seems like the line may be moving a tad slower - but that may just be me. The fry cook was at the top of his game and the zucchini was the best i've had at Krazy Jim's. Service was super friendly as always. Sitting is really nice.

Grabbed a quick burger here while spending a night in Ann Arbor. For a cheap, fast-food style burger it's better than average. This is NOT a gourmet burger and it isn't trying to be. The meat is flavorful and juicy, while the myriad combinations of bread and toppings allow you to create exactly what you want. The line moved somewhat slow the night we were there, despite being less than 10 people deep, which knocks a star off for me given the fast-food nature of the place.

Finally had the chance to try Blimpy Burger. It was solid, not the best burger in AA but worth the wait. Line is a little bit long and it is probably a bit overrated. Burger is of high quality and the fries are decent as well. Overall, it was worth the try.

I was a longtime patron of the old location, from childhood through my time in school. Like many UM alums, I've now left Ann Arbor, but this past weekend I made a special trip after arriving on campus for a weekend visit. The first stop was the new Blimpy. I don't want to make this an "I liked the old location better" review, but... Upon a belated first visit to the new location, long after the kinks should have been worked out, this is a poor imitation of what made Blimpy great. I appreciate the new space having a lot more room, more seating, better amenities. I'm on board, because it is a rather nice space. But that's just about it. When we walked in, the line was almost to the door. 15 minutes later, we had moved no more than five feet. The same party that was at the front of the line when we walked in finally got their food, though I'm not sure why it had to take so long. The line proceeded to absolutely -crawl- to the extent that it took over a half hour to get to the point where we could begin to order our food. Another 15 minutes later, we had made it through. At the old location, even if you were in line on the porch, it wouldn't take nearly that long. The line workers were messing up orders left and right, not listening to patrons telling them what they wanted, moving incredibly slowly in comparison to the well-oiled machine we were all used to... Even with the Blimpy tradition of being slightly impatient-bordering-on-mean to customers, It was kind of amazing. Then there's the quality of the food. The onion rings, always a highlight, were underbreaded and underwhelming. My burger fell apart in my hands in a crumbly mess. The whole "cheaper than food" line hasn't been true in decades, but this was egregiously bad for what we paid for a dinner for three. I hate that Blimpy was forced to move by an opportunistic landlord and the university's greedy reach over Ann Arbor real estate. But I'm beginning to think Krazy Jim and company should have called it a day if this is what we waited so long for them to reopen.

Like crappy service but don't mind long lines and mediocre food? Blimpy has you covered. I'll never understand the appeal of this place. It's an Ann Arbor institution (though arguably less so after moving to its new location), so it's worth trying once if you're a townie. The burgers are average, the onion rings and fries are good, and the service, as you've probably heard, is just abrasive. I'm not sure if a short-temper is a requirement for new hires, or if working a fryer causes brain damage, but be prepared to get yelled at. I got yelled at the last time I was there for correcting the cook after he forgot my onion rings. He nearly lost his mind. He didn't accept my money until I admitted my mistake. So what else can I say? It's a mess.

Always fresh, often So Busy that I'll go somewhere else - but, when I do wait in that crawling, line, it's always worth it! The prep line is always enthusiastic, rock solid, and make it fun to stand in line for 20 minutes so you can move slowly in front of the prep line for another 10 minutes while you watch them cook and assemble your food. The french fries & fried zucchini are awesome, the onion rings are a total trainwreck. Despite the onion rings, I'm giving Blimpy a 5 because, for many years, it's been the best burger joint, ever, anywhere. Now that it's next to the Fleetwood, I just go next door and have Jeff drop an order of onion rings for me.

Went here again recently to introduce someone new to town to the fried broccoli. We had the same griller as before, and again he was too busy being on our case about saying what kind of cheese we wanted instead of just "yes" to remember to put our ranch in the bag with our burgers. Seriously disappointed that I can't eat fried broccoli without dealing with this dude, will probably not be back for another 10 months, unfortunately.

Institutions are traditions that elicit nostalgia and Pavlovian salavatory responses, and both are historically tied to Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burger now located on Ashley next to another Ann Arbor institution: The Fleetwood Diner. The beauty of Blimpy Burger (you don't have to say the whole name like A Tribe Called Quest or A Pimp Named Slickback) is that you call the shots, but you'd better read the FUC'N signs and get it right! I provide pictures of the instructions but needless to say, it's all part of the fun. You'll quickly realize that your eyes are bigger than your stomach. That's why I only ordered a double with cheddar so I could commit one of the seven deadlies later on. You know the one Yelpers. What? Still need a clue? Try "gluttony"? As you know, another name for food coma is "sloth"' so it is entirely possible to violate 2/7 in one go. Consider that the maximum amount of patties you can stack upon request is in the neighborhood of ten, or one full pound of beef as one of many signs points out. My favorite is the sign declaring the number of patties is commiserate to heart bypass surgeries. Ann Arbor humor! Old staples of the former location seemed missing, however. Orange Crush was once the soda of choice to clear your arteries. Today gourmet root beers fill the cooler, and Mexican Coke, pop, not blow. No matter. Another trademark is being given change in two-dollar bills and fifty cent coins. I received the latter. Taste: there's a reason for longevity. In short, screw White Castle, Habit Burger, McDonald's, In and Out (sacrilege, I know) and Sonic to defamate but a few inferior burger joints. Blimpy Burger gives you so many options to customize your burger the only limitations are your budget and stomach capacity. Fresh patties, quality cheeses beyond yellow and white American, grilled veggies of all types and much more. Come here and become a believer.

Hot damn tha pusha' man! This place kicks ass! Great burgers, fries and shakes. The ordering system is chaotic. Ok, I get it, were not regulars...just get over yourself and take my friggin' money already. Come early or the line can be out the door. Wish they served beer...or at least let me bring in my own 40s and boxed wine for ambiance...

5+ stars for the food, 4 stars for the new location. I miss the old house but of course that can't be helped (I do like that the new one has a ton more room, though. And a bathroom, lol). I got my usual: cream soda, double with no cheese plus tomatoes and pickles (added mushrooms this time), and the onion rings. THE ONION RINGS. So good. This was my first time back to blimpy since they reopened and I'm pleased to say the food hasn't changed at all. The order was a bit wonky though - instead of fried foods first, we placed our burger orders, then the fry cook asked us for fried orders. I think their prices went up slightly too but I can always get a double with a drink and fried food (usually onion rings) for less than $10, which is great. I paid with a 10 too and of course they gave me a fifty cent piece back - I swear they hoard those, haha. Overall I'll definitely be back though - love their burgers and onion rings, they're the perfect blend of crunchy deliciousness.

Firstly, I want to mention that my experience at Blimpy was wonderful from a customer service perspective. The guys behind the line are phenomenal and patient with all the customers that come into this place. However, I cannot dote solely on the friendliness of the employees, because this review needs to be about what is important - the FOOD! The deep fried broccoli was out of this world, and I believe it is hand-battered (definitely fried up per order). I would certainly go back to Blimpy just to get another order of the broccoli and maybe some onion rings while I was at it. While I was there I ordered a 1/3 pound burger on an onion bun with sauteed onions, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. The first thing I noticed was that the patties were extremely thin (ten of them make up a pound), and in my opinion, somewhat dry/overcooked. I don't think this is so much the fault of the line cooks, as it is an inherent flaw in using patties that a thickness equivalent to a sheet of notebook paper! It would be impossible not to overcook something that thin. This really ruined the burger for me. Although I still found the burger to be palatable, especially because the onion bun was so good, overall it was dry and lacked depth in flavor. Moreover, the onions on the burger seemed to be burnt rather than sauteed (black vs transparent). It was as if the onions were chopped into fine pieces, thrown on the flat top, and then left to burn. Needles to say, they weren't the tastiest additions to the burger. Overall, the burger was dissatisfying and fails to compete on the same level with Five Guys. Plus, Blimpy seems to be more expensive than Five Guys. However, I think there is hope for this burger joint. First, get rid of this ten patties to a pound concept. It's ridiculous. Who is going to order a 1/10 pound burger? Why not just offer thicker patties that are better suited to life on the flat top? I can promise you that the burgers would taste a lot better if this was the case. Secondly, dice your onions, instead of chopping them. Or, just make it a priority not to burn them. I would give Blimpy another shot, but only when I can't get Five Guys. Until then, this place has a far way to go before they come anywhere near best burger in Ann Arbor.

We went there because my husband had fond memories of it from his college days in the 70s. Big disappointment. The food was decent. But the staff and all the signs were very regimented. Lots of signs about what you should do and what not to do when ordering. Not one staff member cracked a smile or said thank you. In general it seemed like people were an annoyingly necessary part of their job. Won't go there again.

Used to be a regular at the old location. The new location doesn't have the same friendly/mean rule enforcement, they are just downright mean. On top of being unpleasant, they messed up my order and I could barely eat my burger. I didn't expect any sort of customer service if I complained so I just left. Also, it's not cheaper than food - it's about the same price as any other fast casual restaurant in the area if you want enough food to fill you up. The magic is gone, try somewhere else. :(

Used to be heaven. Please step it up. Was craving this, but somehow the magic seemed gone. I will try again some time.

Just a block off of the main street, this establishment provides a nice, affordable alternative to what AA is becoming. Frankly, I have never been here before but just read that it was highly rated for its burgers. The consisted of five including some open minded vegetarians and everybody was happy with their food. Heads up- you stand in line to order and receive your food, so you are on your feet but it is hot when you get it (and prepared before your eyes).

Fine burger but definitely not worth the wait. It was 3pm on a Thursday, one person in line in front of me and it took almost 30 minutes to get my simple order out. Didn't help that the person running the grill looked to be in 5th grade, maybe if they got some adults working here things would run better but the slow service just isn't charming to me.

There is a sign on the wall at Blimpy Burger: "We have a low fat item on the menu -- It's called water." Grease is considered a free condiment at BB. So, why do I, a healthy eater, visit BB at least once a month? Two reasons: First, the burgers are simply delicious, as all the meat is ground fresh and seasoned each morning, and the multi-patty structure allows the condiments to literally merge with the meat. I generally order a triple, with grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms, cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato on a Kaiser roll. I'm salivating as I write this. Second, the fried mixed veggies are amazing, enhanced by the cocktail sauce for dipping. I would not make BB a daily affair -- think "Super size Me," the movie. But, for an occasional sinful treat, there's nothing like Blimpy. BTW, I have been a patron of Blimpy Burger since 1969, when I was a freshman at the University of Michigan.

Worth the wait. And I mean worth the wait for the new place to open, AND worth the wait in line. I went at about 12:30 on a Monday and waited in line for about 15 minutes. Definitely worth it. The fries are ready before the burger and sit temptingly on the tray before your burger is ready. Should you sample them while they're hot and fresh? Absolutely. Careful, though, these come out of the deep fryer at about 9000 degrees. A little salt, some conversation with my friend in line, shooting the breeze with the cook and french fry-cooker, and all's well. My burger came out perfect: a double on a regular bun, bacon, banana peppers, lettuce, tomato, light on the ketchup. The burger was cooked just right: not dry and over-cooked, not greasy from the stovetop, but just how I like it, well-done and delicious. Krazy Jim's isn't a cheap burger. I added a glass bottle of Coke (made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup, new since they moved to the new location) and my bill was just over $10. That may be more than I want to pay for a burger, fries and Coke normally, but this is no normal burger. I'm glad to see KJBB back in business. They're an Ann Arbor institution (since 1953) and they're back on my lunch rotation.
